Get2Go Regional Series and Final

MTB racing Get2GoAt the time of writing this our last event of 2014, the Get2Go Challenge National Final, is just a couple of weeks away. The week-long outdoor adventure competition for the twelve best junior (yr 9 and 10 students) Adventure Racing teams from across the country will take place between the 7-12 December at our amazing centre on Great Barrier Island.

The teams of 8 students have earned a place in the national final by winning their regional Get2Go Challenge event in Term 3. Nearly 200 teams (1600 students), representing schools from the Bay of Islands down to Invercargill, took part on one of the 12 regional events undertaking challenges like orienteering, rock climbing, kayaking, mountain biking and problem solving. Somewhere along the way, this year the 12,000th student took part in the Get2Go!

Many of the participants had never tried some of these outdoor sports before their event, but that is one of the great things about the Get2Go challenge, it caters for all levels of skill and experience. The one thing you must have is a ‘give it a go’ attitude and the willingness to have an awesome, fun day out with your team mates. If this sounds like you, be sure to check out the Get2Go page on our website to get all of the details on dates and how to register a team for the 2015 regional series.

Congratulations to the schools/teams that have qualified for this years final, we are really looking forward to seeing you all go head to head and have an adventure of a lifetime in the national final.

Event programme for next year

Our event programme for next year is getting close to being finalised. We will have 20 events spread across the country throughout the year.

There will be four NavQuest 3hr rogaine events in Taupo (15 March), Auckland (date TBC), Wellington (date TBC) and Rotorua (7 June). These are great fun events suitable for all ages and levels of experience. They are public events, so anyone can take part and there are lots of cool spot prizes given away at each event.

The 15th Genesis Energy Hillary Challenge Final will take place at our Tongariro Centre during the week 18-22 May. This is the big event for the very best secondary school Adventure Racing teams from New Zealand and Australia and is always an incredible and amazing week.

We will also be holding two Hillary Outdoors 6hr Adventure Races next year for year 11-13 students. These events are a fantastic introduction to adventure racing and are the perfect next step for anyone who has done a Get2Go Challenge regional event. You don’t need any special skill or experience to take part in these events, but you need 7 team mates all keen to have a fun day (well 6hrs) in the outdoors – mountain biking, orienteering, and undertaking problem solving challenges on water and land. The North Island event will be held near Rotorua on 28 June and the South Island event near Christchurch on 19 September. Check out our website for all of the details.

Of course the 10th annual twelve event Get2Go regional series will also be on in Term 3 next year. So if you are in year 9 or 10 and are keen to give this one a go, jump on our website to check out the details.

Registrations for all of our events will open early in Term 1, 2015. Some events have limited places available so if you don’t want to miss out on a place get ready to register as soon as they open. We will let you all know via our various social media sites and also by emails out to everyone on our events and schools databases.

See you next year!
