Hillary Outdoors and Genesis Energy have teamed up to offer students from schools in the Ruapehu, Taumarunui, Turangi and Taupo areas the opportunity to expand their personal kayak skills. This course is a great precursor to the 5-day introductory course but also great for anyone who wants to know the basics about kayaking.
Taking full advantage of rivers and lakes accessible to Hillary Outdoors Tongariro, the skills you will be introduced to will include:
- Experiencing an exciting and adventurous day out on the water
- Participating with and relating to others on the water
- Knowledge of the equipment associated with kayaking
- Learning personal paddling skills (pool and lake)
- Managing personal safety such as wet exits and appropriate clothing
- Environmental learning such as weather and environmental care
Participants will spend as much time as possible on the water to maximise ‘hands on learning’
Our experienced kayak instructors are passionate about their sport and introducing others to it. They are skilled at providing suitable experiences (and progressions) to make learning enjoyable and challenging and to suit your student’s particular level. Course ratio: one instructor to 10 students
We will provide all safety equipment, wetsuits, kayaks, and transport to lake/river from Hillary Outdoors. All your students will need to bring is a towel, warm clothes, lunch, drink (hot thermos) and sun block.
It will be first in first served for your preferred date and places are limited to 10 students per day. But do let me know if you would prefer to bring 20 students and I’ll see what can be arranged.
