Silver/Gold Adventurous Journey – Tongariro

Create life-long memories tramping in the Tongariro National Park, New Zealand’s oldest National Park and a dual World Heritage area. Explore the native bush, bird life, mountain lakes, outstanding volcanic features and places of cultural significance to Māori.  

This programme allows participants to complete both their Practice and Qualifying Adventurous Journeys within a single week-long visit. 

During the week, participants will: 

  • Receive additional training and skill development to prepare for their Qualifying Journey 
  • Complete a Practice Journey to build confidence and competence 
  • Be supported in planning their Qualifying Journey using detailed route cards 
  • Undertake a Qualifying Journey, assessed through shadowing by an instructor 
  • Experience and reflect on teamwork, navigation, resilience, and adventure 

Dates: Saturday 11th – Friday 17th April 2026

Who is this for? Participants aged 14 to 18, enrolled in The Duke of Edinburgh Award programme. (Please note: If you are 19-25 years old and you are interested in our Silver/Gold Adventurous Journeys, please contact us. We run these programmes based on interest.) 

Cost breakdown
$1,460  – That’s $243.30 per day, including:  

🗻 7 hours of adventure daily 
🛏️ 6 nights’ accommodation
🍽️ Nutritious breakfasts, lunches, and dinners (from arrival to departure) 
🚌 Transport to and from activities
