Kayak Leadership Programme

Designed for 14 – 18 year old’s and offered at our Tongariro Centre, the Genesis Energy Kayak Leadership Programme involves a progressive approach to white-water kayak skills and the safety around the sport.

This programme will cover personal paddling skills on flat water and white water, the kayak roll, understanding river features, safe river running, safety management and suitable equipment, culminating in the ability to paddle grade 2 white-water. Participants will spend as much time as possible on the water to maximise ‘hands on’ learning in conjunction with essential theory sessions.

This programme is generously funded by Genesis Energy, with only a nominal course fee charged to participants. Cost includes catering, accommodation, instruction, overnight supervision, gear, and travel to/from the activity location each day.

Participants are required to organise their own transport to Hillary Outdoors at the beginning and end of the programme, pick-ups/drop-offs at Turangi Bus Stop can be arranged.
