Explorer Day Programme – Tongariro

Hillary Holiday Camp - Ages 11-12

If you’re based near Tongariro, our day programme is the perfect way for local students aged 11 to 12 to experience all the adventure, fun, and connection of Hillary Outdoors without staying overnight.

Five action-packed days based at the Tongariro Centre, full of outdoor challenges, team-building, and personal growth. You’ll hike, climb, problem-solve, and explore the wild, while making new friends and building lasting confidence. The only difference? You’ll head home each evening to rest for the next day’s adventure.

On arrival each morning, you’ll team up with your group and instructor to shape the day ahead. There’s no set schedule; activities are tailored to your group’s goals, interests, and the weather.

Come ready for a week of discovery, connection, and fun. You’ll head home each evening with great stories and finish the week with new skills, friendships, and the kind of confidence that sticks with you.

It’s the perfect way to experience the Hillary Holidays spirit while staying close to home. Sign up solo (most do!) or get a friend to join you.

Enrolment
Students interested in joining this holiday programme will need to request a mentor from their community to fill out the referee form. For more information, click on the ‘Referee Form & Info’ button.

Travel to and from the Centre
Daily shuttles will pick up participants at 8.30am from Tūrangi or National Park and drop off at 4.30pm.
