Trailblazer Rock Climbing – Tongariro

This rock-focused programme is a chance for youth aged 16-19 to explore the outdoor climbing crags of Tongariro National Park and surrounding areas, and to build skills for safe rock climbing and abseiling.
Throughout the week, you’ll learn how to:
- Boulder
- Belay
- Top rope climb
- Lead climb
- Read and interpret weather forecasts
- Select and manage essential clothing and equipment for summer alpine environments.
The week begins with day trips into Tongariro National Park, giving you time to develop your confidence and technical skills. Then, you’ll take on a final challenge: an overnight expedition. With your instructor’s guidance, your team will plan a climbing expedition.
No prior rock-climbing experience required.
