How do I start a career in the outdoors?
Our programmes offer a structured, two-step pathway into the outdoor industry:
Step 1: Build your foundation
New Zealand Certificate in Outdoor & Adventure Education (Level 4)
Develop core technical skills in bush, whitewater kayak, and rock and alpine climbing, as well as a working knowledge of safety and risk management, environmental science, kaitiakitanga, teaching and learning, and Hauora/wellbeing in the outdoors. This is your entry point into the industry.
Step 2: Advance to professional instruction
New Zealand Diploma in Outdoor & Adventure Education (Level 5)
Develop advanced instructor-level capabilities, complex risk management, and real-world programme delivery experience. Together, these programmes create a robust professional foundation for a rewarding career in the outdoor industry.
What jobs can I get with these qualifications?
Upon graduation, you will be prepared for diverse roles within the adventure tourism and outdoor education sectors, including:
- Outdoor Instructor at a variety of outdoor education centres
- Adventure Tourism Guide for various outdoor pursuits
