Whānau Camp – Tongariro
This Whānau Camp is a residential outdoor family camp in Tongariro for teens (11–18) and the important adults in their lives. It’s designed to help you reconnect through shared challenge, adventure, and time away from everyday life.
This family camp gives you the chance to step off the grid and into nature — exploring mountains, native bush, and new experiences together, then slowing down in the evenings to talk, laugh, and simply be together.

What your days might look like
No two camps are the same! Your experience is shaped by your group, your goals, and the conditions. You can expect a mix of guided outdoor adventures and relaxed time together, including:
- Canadian Canoeing and inflatable maverick kayaking
- High rope and low rope courses
- Tramping and mountain exploration
- Waterfall jumps and caving
- Rock climbing and abseiling
- Evening games and stargazing
Who it’s for
Whānau can look however you like. Parents, stepparents, caregivers, aunties, uncles, older siblings, and other important people are all welcome.
Camp registration covers one adult and one teen. If you’d like to bring additional whānau members, please contact our Programme Coordinators at bookings@hillaryoutdoors.co.nz or (07) 386 5511, and we’ll help arrange this for you.

Meals & Accommodation
All meals and accommodation from arrival day dinner to departure day lunch are provided (we cater to most dietary requirements).

Our professional Safety Management System ensures all activities are run to the highest safety standards by
qualified instructors.
Online Prep Evening
Before the programme, one of our team members will host a virtual prep session to introduce you to the other participants, share what to expect, outline what to pack, and answer any questions you have.
Phone Free Time
Teen participants can either leave their phones at home or store them away safely on the arrival night and collect them on departure day. We highly recommend that adult participants reduce screen time during the camp, too!

$2,477 – That’s $247.00 per person/per day, including:
- 7 hours of adventure daily
