Silver/Gold Adventurous Journey – Sea Kayak – Coromandel

Duke of Edinburgh Hillary Award

Create life-long memories sea kayaking in the Coromandel. Explore marine life, native bush, bird life, and places of cultural significance to Māori.  

This programme allows participants to complete Training, Practice and Qualifying Adventurous Journeys within a single week-long visit. 

Please note: If the weather changes during the course and sea kayaking is not a safe activity, the Journey will be tramping in the native surrounding bush.

During the week, participants will: 

  • Receive training and skill development to sign off their training prepare for their Qualifying Journey 
  • Complete a Practice Journey to build confidence and competence 
  • Be supported in planning their Qualifying Journey using detailed route cards 
  • Undertake a Qualifying Journey, assessed through shadowing by an instructor 
  • Experience and reflect on teamwork, navigation, resilience, and adventure 

Cost breakdown
$1,720  – That’s $286.67 per day, including: 

  • 7 hours of adventure daily 
  • 6 nights’ accommodation
  • Nutritious breakfasts, lunches, and dinners (from arrival to departure) 
  • Transport to and from activities 
  • Highly-skilled, qualified instructors 
  • Ongoing pastoral care and safety support 
  • Use of specialist gear
